what an embarrassment, lagos state police officer allegedly involved in armed robbery
According to the report, a police sergeant in the Lagos state command, Williams Godwin, was allegedly involved in the robbery of a commuter identified only as Henry.
The 41-year-old victim was on his way to work when he joined a cab along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway en route to Lagos Island. He was said to have been attacked at gunpoint, as the suspected robbers which included Godwin, allegedly dispossessed him of his ATM card and N4,000. However, during the attack, Godwin's identity card allegedly fell into the bag of the victim, who was rushed to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll gate, Ojota, after he was stabbed with a sharp object.
The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, has now released a statement reacting to the report. According to the police spokesperson, the matter is now being investigated but that no report in connection with the attack has been made. Read the statement below
The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the Punch Newspaper publication on page 4 and 5 dated Tuesday 14th November, 2017 and its official website with the caption "Lagos ‘policeman’ robs, stabs commuter, leaves ID card at scene".
The command would like to inform the general public that no formal or official report of this alleged incident which according to Punch Newspaper happened on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 has been made at any of our Police division.
However, Investigation to ascertain the veracity of the incident has commenced and the command is also assuring the public that the findings of the investigation will be made public.
