Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike celebrates and honour mothers on their day.
Mother's day also known as Mothering Sunday is a day specifically mapped out to celebrate and honour mothers and all mother figures, for their immense contributions to their families, communities and society at large.
This annual celebration of mothers does not have a fixed date as it is linked to Easter, which also changes annually due to the lunar calendar.
Today's celebration of Mother’s Day is all about showering love, attention, gifts flowers, or even cooking sumptuous meals just to surprise our mothers and make them feel special for all their wonderful contributions in building our society.
There is no doubting the important roles mothers play in the formation of our homes and societies. Right from conception, delivery and to adulthood, a mother invests love and her essence on the progress of her child.
Mothers are the core strength of their homes. They play major roles in the upbringing of their children, especially in moulding them to become great men and women. What happens in their individual homes determines what happens in our society, both positively and negatively.
Moreover, children look up to their mothers and often imitate their behavior. It becomes very necessary for our mothers to always set positive examples for their children. The hypocritical old saying, "do as I say, not as I do" does not work with children. They often repeat whatever behavior they observe from their parents or people around them, regardless of what they are told.
A mother that wants her children to be respectful, must be respectful. She has to be respectful towards her spouse, the elderly, leaders and to the laws of our state. Even if she disagrees with something, she can still find a way to be kind and respectful whilst expressing herself. Her attitudes will surely be reflected through her children.
As mothers and parents, we must always strive to play our roles well. We must learn to cultivate healthy and functional homes for our children and be able to teach them how to be their best, regardless of circumstances or backgrounds.
I also appeal to our husbands and fathers to always endeavour to assist and support our mothers in building godly homes, for if homes around the world are failing, the result is a failing society.
To all mothers and mother figures within our dear Rivers State and beyond, I wish you a beautiful and joyous mother's day! Your reward is not only in heaven but also here on earth as your children shall rise and call you blessed, amen.
God bless and keep you and your families.
