Security Agencies Ignore Osinbajo Directive, Manually Search Passengers’ Luggage At Lagos Airport

Mr. Osinbajo recently signed an executive order demanding that all security agencies dispatched to the airport stop manually searching luggage starting Thursday, June 1, 2017, saying that they should instead use the screening machines to examine passengers’ luggage.

Security agencies at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos are ignoring Acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s directive ordering them to cease manually searching passengers’ luggage, SaharaReporters has revealed.

Mr. Osinbajo recently signed an executive order demanding that all security agencies dispatched to the airport stop manually searching luggage starting Thursday, June 1, 2017, saying that they should instead use the screening machines to examine passengers’ luggage.

Persons who distort public queues to be sentenced to six months imprisonment, passes second reading

The Bill to sentence  persons who distort queues in public places to six months imprisonment has passed its second reading at the House of Representatives.

The bill was sponsored by , Rep. Abubakar Amuda-Kannike (Kwara-APC), while leading debate on it, said that it sought to ensure that Nigerians conducted themselves orderly in public places.

Amuda-Kannike said that it was normal practice for some Nigerians to shunt or distort queues and go unpunished.

He expressed worry that recent events had shown that Nigeria was on the verge of losing its cherished sense of nationalism, cultural identity and hospitality.

“The bill underscores the need to re-awaken a derailed national culture by proposing disciplinary measures to guide Nigerians in their daily behaviours.

“In our society today, out of total disregard for other persons, who strive to do the right thing by conducting themselves orderly in public places, a large number of Nigerians distort queues and go unpunished.

A Lagos based pastor, Lewa Timothy of First Born Of The Spirit Ministries, Lagos, has been arrested and will be arraigned at a Lagos state magistrate court for allegedly having s*x and impregnating 14 year old Chineye, the daughter of one of his members.

In an interview with LIB, Barrister Kingsley Ughe who is the General Council of the Joint Action Legal Aids, an NGO following up the case, said Chineye is a student and an ardent worshipper of the church. She became very close to the pastor so much so that he entrusted her with his protocols in the church.

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo speaks from prison, accuses court registrar of stalling her release

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, a social media enthusiast and daughter of a former governor of Old Oyo State, Omololu Olunloyo, has accused the chief registrar attached to the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court of sitting on her case in order to keep her perpetually behind bars, despite having allegedly met her bail conditions.

But Maimunat Folami, the Deputy Chief Registrar, strongly denied the allegations, stating that her office had cooperated fully with Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo’s counsel to ensure proper vetting of her bail documents.

“We have done everything that we’re supposed to do,” Ms. Folami said. “This allegation is very strange.”

Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo spoke inside Port Harcourt Prison, where she had been remanded since her initial arraignment in mid-March for alleged criminal defamation against a Port-Harcourt-based preacher, David Ibiyeomie.

Soldiers kill 4 kidnappers in Rivers state, destroy another den in Bayelsa

Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS) on Tuesday ambushed a gang of sea robbers/kidnappers along KM-45 AWOBA Waterways in Rivers State. During the ambush operation, 4 robbers met their Waterloo.

Items recovered include; 2× AK-47 rifles, quantity 3× AK-47 magazines, quantity 22 ammunitions and one-speed boat mounted with one 200 Horse-Power engine. Similarly, troops patrol along Bayelsa waterways acting on information, raided a sea pirates hideout along FORUPA-LOBIA waterways.

However, sea pirates on sighting troops advance fled the hideout and left behind 3× fiber boats and one 75 Horse-Power engine.

Bob Marley's Son Damian becomes Co-owner of marijuana publication in US

Damian Marley, the youngest son of late Jamaican legend Bob Marley has become a co-owner of the US famous marijuana publication, High Times.
TMZ reports that Damian is 1 of 20 new investors in the ownership group that bought a controlling interest in the media company behind HT, which is valued around $70 million.
It's the first time the magazine changed ownership since it was founded in 1974.

According to TMZ, High Times' new ownership group plans to do more live events. It already puts on the popular Cannabis Cup shows.

On why he invested in the marijuana publication Damian who's  producing his own line of weed as co-founder of Stony Hill says reading High Times taught him how to differentiate between male and female cannabis plants.

7 charged with ‘murder’ for the gruesome lynching of military officer in Ghana (Photos)

Seven persons arrested including an assembly member for the gruesome murder of a military officer in Denkyira-Obuasi, the Central Region of Ghana were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Cape Coast Thursday morning where they were provisionally charged with ‘Murder ‘amidst heavy security.
Police prosecutors, led by ASP Avornyo, told the court presided over by Rita Amonyiwaa Edusah to remand the accused persons as thorough investigations into the gruesome murder continue.

The court consequently granted the application by the prosecutors and remanded the seven persons to appear again on Monday, June 19, 2017.

PDP National Assembly caucus endorses Governor Wike for second term

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the National Assembly has endorsed Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for a second term.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu declared that the endorsement is a fallout of Governor Wike's excellent performance, which has transformed Rivers State.
He spoke on Wednesday when he commissioned Ulakwo II-Afara-Nihi Road in Etche Local Government Area constructed by the Wike administration.

    "If you take the statistics and look at what Governor Wike has done in two years , I can safely say that he has done more than all APC Governors put together ". he said.

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, has condemned the decision of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to continue with its orientation camps for youth corp members during the Ramadan fast.

The organization also called on the Nigerian Army to postpone its planned recruitment exercise until Muslims have concluded their fasting period. JNI said that NYSC continuing the orientation program and the Nigerian Army conducting recruitment exercise during Ramadan would put Muslim faithful who are fasting at a disadvantage.

    “This is because the prospective corps members would be at disadvantage to their faith and other camp activities. The council also calls on the authority of the Nigerian Army to postpone the intended recruitment exercise until after Ramadan to avoid putting prospective candidates at a disadvantage," JNI said.

Nigerian man sentenced to two years imprisonment over One Million naira car scan

On June 1, 2017 the EFCC secured the conviction of Marcellinus Akochi Ezeoke before Justice Lawal Wada of the Kano State High Court on a one count charge of obtaining by false pretence.
The convict was arraigned on November 25, 2015 and pleaded not guilty to the charge. In the course of the trial, prosecution counsel Douglas I. Gift called two witnesses and presented several exhibits to prove the case against the convict.  The convict fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,010,000 (One Million, Ten Thousand Naira Only) from the complainant by falsely claiming that he was a car dealer based in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Based on that, the complainant sent him the said sum for the purchase of a Peugeot 406 but the convict failed to deliver the vehicle and became incommunicado.  In his judgment today, Justice Wada held that the prosecution had established the case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him on count 2 of the charge.
