Governor Wike flags off Christmas Season in Rivers State.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has flagged off the Christmas season in the state with the official lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.

The governor performed the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday in the company of Western Tourists and indigenous fun seekers.
Governor Wike expressed happiness that the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park has become an international destination for tourism and relaxation.

He said: "What we have done today is to flag off the celebration of Christmas, the birth of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  All through this month, international tourists and our people will gather here to celebrate the salvation of Humanity.

Nigeria's future economic growth will be driven by small and medium-sized businesses, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo said this during the launch of the nationwide MSME clinic in Osogbo, Osun State on Thursday. He added that the Buhari administration will continue to support small businesses nationwide through its economic initiatives.

The Vice President further said that there are enough resources to go round if the country and its people use its resources well, while urging Nigerians to tap into the potential in their communities to create wealth through entrepreneurship and MSMEs.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has frozen seven separate accounts which, was used by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole directed on Wednesday that the freezing order would last for 45 days within which the EFCC must either institute charges in respect of the transactions against the relevant suspects or apply to the court for an extension of the order.

The judge also gave seven days to the account owners, if interested in seeking the setting aside of the freezing order, to file an application which must be served on the EFCC.

The frozen accounts are 0002184449 with Jaiz Bank Plc and operated by HAD Properties Limited; 0025600864 with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and operated by Hassan Ahmed Danbaba; as well as 0005892453 with Access Bank Plc and operated by Melrose General Services Coy.

They also include one Access Bank account, 0045824054 and another Zenith Bank Plc account 1010948906, both of which belong to Bina Consult and Integrated Services.

Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary Abubakar Magaji owned up to the lapses in Maina’s reinstatement, which sparked a huge row.

Magaji spoke when he appeared before the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee investigating the “disappearance, reappearance, reinstatement and promotion of Maina’’ in Abuja.

According to him, the reference letter made to inform the Head of Civil Service of the Federation that Maina resumed duty was a letter sent to the Federal Civil Service Commission.

“When I observed this upon resumption from sick leave, I quickly replied to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, apologising to her about the reference letter.

“But service is an institution; whatever happened in the process of the minutes, the permanent secretary is the head of the administration and I am here to take responsibility.

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a senior party member in Kaduna State, was a member of the House of Reps from 2003 to 2007.

He was also elected a Senator under the platform of the Congress For Progressive Change, CPC, in 2011 when he defeated two-time Kaduna governor, Ahmed Makarfi.

Hon. Baba-Ahmed on Thursday informed the chairman of Tudun Wada ward in Zaria area in a hand-written letter of his decision to resign his membership of the APC.

The former Senator did not give his reasons for the decision to leave the party in his resignation letter but he told PT in a phone interview on Friday that he did not give his reasons in the letter because “for a party like APC, the shorter the better”.

He also said he decided to leave APC because “Buhari’s Government is incompetent and corrupt”.

Reminded that Mr. Buhari’s government has not hidden its resolve to fight corruption, Baba-Ahmed said “the government is lying”.
