Justice suzette wike speaks on empowering rural women and girls at the united nations.

The Wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike who made this call while delivering her keynote address during the Medical Women Association of Nigeria Parallel event, at the on going United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 62nd Session in New York City, stressed on the need for women’s right protective services to be taken closer to the rural women to aid accessibility.
Non-Governmental organizations have been urged to set up centers in local government areas.

Justice Wike urged women to access the laws as passed by the Rivers state Government, noting that Rivers state is one of the leading states in the passage of the Laws protecting Maternal rights, Laws against Widowhood Practices and other discriminatory practices and Laws against Female genital Mutilation.

She further called on women in general to support themselves in achieving the empowerment of women and girls in the rural areas, while lauding the synergy among Medical Women Associatio…

The Rivers State Executive Council has set up an ad-hoc committee for the establishment of a university of Environment.

The Rivers State Executive Council has approved the setting up of an ad-hoc committee  to examine and advise the State Government on the proposal for the establishment  of a University of Environment in the state.

The Ad-Hoc  committee which is headed by the Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo has two weeks to submit its report to the State Executive Council.

Addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Wednesday, Commissioner for Information and Communications , Emma Okah , said other members of the committee include: Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Commissioner for Education, Commissioner for Environment, Commissioner for Budget, Commissioner for Information/Communication and Commissioner for Sports .

The State Executive Council also approved the setting up of a technology hub to bring the state up to speed in the internet age.
